PORT ELIZABETH: GOING FORWARD

The theme for this year is the progression of our urban context, aiming to develop a greater understanding of our urban issues and ameliorating it. Port Elizabeth has shown symptoms of intermittent growth as well as stagnancy as we sit with a declining of our heritage core. By a delineation of the commercial filled spaces of Central the city is growing more and more along the periphery and this is being aggressed by sporadic developmental patterns.

Along with these spatial issues, there is not enough economic activity within PE, in spite of having excellent manufacturing and logistical infrastructure.

The workshop will focus on four specific urban precincts of the city conducted through four different workshops lead by international experts in association with local staff from NMMU with the intent to give students hands on experience in engaging and responding to architectural and relevant developmental challenges.
