The second year architecture students embarked on their third design project for the year, the design of a house situated at Schoenmakerskop. The house for the family of four loves the outdoors and in touch with their roots in South Africa, is looking for a humble, site-specific house at Schoenmakerskop.

Student Work 2016
Students from the School of Archtiecture takes to the city center for a day full of fun, laugter and learning. In groups, students transformed Market Sqaure with works of art. Round about thirty nine teams made up with seven students ranging from architecture, architectural technology and interior design spend the day on Market Square with only chalk. With pavement art as the theme fore this year's icebreaker, the student engaged with the greater public on Market Square. Understanding, in a practical manner, how people interact with public spaces and what role architecture plays in public space. Students not only ended with some incredible pieces of art with multiple themes, they also made new fiends and learned the important role of working together in teams.
The 2nd year design class AA2 at the NMMU Department of Architecture has put together an installation for the AfrikaBurn arts festival. The project aims to offer students to experience a hands on approach towards the learning of architecture and exposure to the SA arts culture. The architectural content explores the issue of separation and place in architecture.
The Department of Architecture has been successfully producing professional architects since the 1970's.
